Jakarta - Beberapa waktu lalu, masyarakat diresahkan dengan pemberitaan mengenai aspartam yang mengatasnamakan BPOM (Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan) atau IDI (Ikatan Dokter Indonesia) melalui sms, e-mail, dan bbm blast. Berita tersebut adalah hoax (pemberitaan palsu) yang sengaja disebarkan dengan maksud dan tujuan tertentu. BPOM telah memberikan pernyataan bahwa Aspartam dikategorikan AMAN dan dapat dipergunakan untuk berbagai jenis makanan dan minuman.
